You are still in the Quilting-Dee website, however, you are able to request a quilt or make a donation directly to  IPump.org, Inc.'s program QD Quilts for Children Newly Diagnosed with Diabetes through our site.  We do NOT receive any compensation or portion of your donations for IOH or the Quilting Dee.  Quilts and materials that are donated are sewn into quilts by volunteers of all sewing skill levels.  The quilts are given away free to children with diabetes.  IPump.org, Inc. is a nonprofit, California Public Benefits Corporation.   If you would like to contribute to IPump.org, Inc. through their own website, go there now.

Quilts are love

Love to quilt?  Love kids with diabetes?  We love volunteers!

We ask those that can afford to do so, to consider making a donation to IPump.org, Inc. The quilts are made by volunteers from donated materials, however, the cost of postage runs $10-15 per quilt and the mailing envelopes cost $1.60 per envelope).

It is not mandatory to make a donation if you are related to the child and all donations go to directly to others in need -- and not to salaries!

Who is the QD program intended for?

Children newly diagnosed with diabetes within the past year (but we are not strict about the date) from infancy through 16 years of age.  We do make exceptions because we know first-hand that the first year of diagnosis goes by fast, and there are times where children have special circumstances where a quilt might make a difference -- even long into diagnosis.  Just write to us if you have a special situation -- we want to help.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Who can request a quilt?
Anyone with a child, or who knows a child, recently diagnosed with diabetes.  If you are related to the child (parent, step-parent, or grandparent) the quilt is free.  If you are a friend, or otherwise not related to the child you will need to make a donation on behalf of the child.
See "What if I am not related to the child but still want to get them a quilt?"
Hospitals and physicians who treat children newly diagnosed with diabetes should contact IPump.org, Inc. directly for information about how to get a quilt for a patient or diabetes social service program.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

How much does it cost?

The quilt is free to all who opt to show some evidence that the child is newly diagnosed with diabetes. This is done when you place your request by simply offering a mini-bio about your child including when they were diagnosed.  We can include this on our website (information posted is non-identifying unless you request otherwise).

We reserve the right to refuse any request for any reason or to ask for more information before processing a request.

We ask those that can afford to do so, to consider making a donation to IPump.org, Inc.  The quilts are made by volunteers from donated materials, however, the cost of postage runs $7-12 per quilt and the mailing envelopes cost $1.60 per envelope).

It is not mandatory to make a donation but donations are appreciated and go to directly to others in need -- and not to salaries (IPump.org, Inc. is an all-volunteer organization)!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is my donation tax-deductible?
When making a donation to any organization the only amount that can be deducted from your income tax is the donated amount that exceeds the value of the item you receive.  But we do not require a donation (if you are related to the child) in order to receive a quilt -- you are not getting something in exchange for making a donation.
It is important that any donation you choose to make is made separately from ordering a quilt on the basis of your good will and not because you wish to purchase a quilt (they are not for sale).  Therefore, we have not included the option of making a donation on the quilt order form.  You will need to make donations as a separate transaction.
Write to program-director@ipump.org for more information about donations.
What if I am not related to the child but still want to get them a quilt?
If you are requesting a quilt for someone who is not related to you (i.e., for a friend) you can still request a quilt.  "Related" means you are the parent, step-parent, or grandparent of the child with diabetes.
For those who are not related, you will need to make a donation on behalf of the child.  This helps us avoid inadvertently honoring requests that, unfortunately, come from folks just looking for a freebie and don't know anyone with diabetes.
The suggested donation for a quilt for those who are not related to the child is $40.00 per quilt. This is not a tax-deductible donation as no quilt on our site has an assessed value of less than $40.00 so a donation of $40.00 will not exceed the value of the quilt. (In this case, you are making a donation in order to receive a specific benefit.)
Your donation will, however, be acknowledged on our website and on a card that is sent with the quilt so the child will know that you made this donation on their behalf.  Your donation (which can exceed $40.00 if you wish) will be used to support our programs that help others in need.
You can also sponsor a quilt for children in general.  Make a donation on behalf of "any child" with diabetes in the amount of $20.00 for any particular quilt and when a child requests that quilt you will be honored as the financial donor.
Can I request or purchase a quilt even if it is not for a child with diabetes?
Sorry, no.
We ask that you remember our program is specifically intended to help children with diabetes. People volunteer and make donations to support this unique cause knowing that they are helping a child who has a disease (diabetes) close to their own heart. It would be unfair (and unethical) to sell the donated quilts or give them to the general public.
You can, however, sponsor a quilt for children in general.  Make a donation on behalf of "any child" with diabetes in the amount of $20.00 for any particular quilt and when a child requests that quilt you will be honored as the financial donor.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

How many quilts can I request?

Individuals are limited to one quilt per household, and/or per child with diabetes.  However, we do know that there are families who have more than one diabetic in the family (including IPump.org, Inc.'s own CEO).  Just write to us and we will work with you to make sure your needs are met.

How do I request a quilt and how long does it take to get a quilt?

We used to show pictures of finished quilts and quilts in progress that could be ordered.  We found this to be a very inefficient way to offer quilts.  Updating the website took a lot of time, as did photographing and cataloging the quilts.   Since more people wanted to order "quilts in progress" than the finished quilts we were overwhelmed with a backlog of quilts to finish while perfectly lovely finished quilts sat on our shelves gathering dust.

As of August 1, 2007 we changed our program. Instead of viewing quilts to choose from we now ask that you tell us about your child's interests and likes (and dislikes). We then try to match a quilt to your child's interests as closely as possible from our finished quilts. This helps us to get quilts out much faster than before.

If we have something we think your child will like based on what you told us we will send it out within five (5) business days.

Please remember that our entire organization is run by volunteers. The QD program takes a lot of sewing and time to administer and we are unable to respond to requests for "rush" jobs. Most of the time founder Lahle Wolfe and her two young daughters make all the quilts (hint: if you wish to send us a quilt or quilt top we'd be ever so grateful!).
